Biography

Paolo Miguel Duran obtained his bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of the Philippines and went on to pursue his postgraduate diploma in Emergency Management at the Auckland University of Technology under a New Zealand ASEAN scholarship. He was formerly an operations engineer and safety manager for several international hotel companies before pursuing his passion to do humanitarian work, focusing on community-based disaster risk management and capacity development. He is currently a consultant for the Citizens’ Disaster Response Center in the Philippines, assisting in their community training programmes, as well as a resource speaker on workplace risk assessment and management. Paolo is fluent in English and Filipino, knows a little Spanish and Māori.
