Martin Joe

Biography

Martin is a PhD candidate, graduate teaching assistant, and research assistant at the University of Auckland. He’s also the editor of this website and radixonline.org. His work currently focuses on the topic of people’s emotions surrounding hope and doom about the future (specifically environmental futures), through an experiential lens of popular culture. His interest in emotions has ventured further into children’s participation, children’s education, creative learning, and creative teaching methods, with research on music, and LEGO® and its potential for creative teaching and learning. These have helped develop his interest in the study of power, power relations, and the impact of power on people. Martin is fluent in both English and Cantonese, and has intermediate skills in Norsk Bokmål (Norwegian) and beginner skills in Japanese and Te Reo Māori. He is interested in developing his language skills, so that he can continue learning about different cultures and people.
