Khanh That Ton

Biography

Khanh That Ton holds an MS in Environmental Science from the School of Environment, the University of Auckland. He used to work as a programme officer in Community-based Disaster Risk Management (CBDRM) projects implemented by Swiss Red Cross and German Red Cross in Vietnam. Under these projects, he supported local Vietnam Red Cross branches in designing and implementing various activities of disaster risk reduction, including: capacity building in disaster risk reduction and project management, GIS-based participatory risk mapping, disaster risk assessment and planning, community preparedness and response, early warning systems, behaviour change communication, school safety, livelihood support and structural mitigation measures. His current interests are in CBDRM, community development, participatory mapping, and disability inclusion in disaster risk reduction. He is now pursuing his PhD at the University of Auckland. His current research looks at expanding the capabilities of people with disabilities in disaster risk reduction. He speaks Vietnamese and English.
