Jamon Amiga

 

Biography

Jamon Losalina Amiga is of Samoan descent - born and raised in South Auckland, New Zealand. Jamon speaks English and has had basic training in New Zealand Sign Language. She takes pride in being the eldest child and is honoured to be the first in her family to pursue tertiary education.

 Jamon has volunteered in two programmes abroad: ‘The Real-Life Programme 2015’ in the Philippines and ‘The Fiji Impact Mission 2016’ with Church Alive Auckland. Each experience has exposed her to different lifestyles (urban and rural), beliefs and situations that have broaden her worldview and equipped her with the fundamental tools to strengthen her passion for advocating and helping vulnerable communities.

 Jamon has earned her Bachelor of Health Science in Health Promotion, which is committed to health equity, social justice, human rights and Te Tiriti o Waitangi. She is currently completing a Postgraduate Diploma in Emergency Management as she aspires to improve and create contingency plans for vulnerable communities during the current climate crisis.

 Her research interest has evolved around vulnerable communities on islands that are susceptible to losing their land, culture, identity - and with that, their lives.
