Damithri Chathumani

Biography

Damithri Chathumani is a doctoral student at the Auckland University of Technology, focusing on research themes centered around ecosystem-based, nature-based, and blue-green disaster risk reduction (DRR). Her academic pursuits encompass an interest in community-based DRR approaches. She holds a bachelor's degree with a specialisation in environmental studies. She has been interested in DRR research since 2016 and has worked with disaster-vulnerable communities across Sri Lanka and Aotearoa.

Her professional journey includes prior engagements at the University of Colombo, where she contributed to academic endeavours, and at Auckland University of Technology, where she served as a teaching assistant and a research assistant. These experiences have enriched her understanding of the field and provided valuable insights into the practical aspects of research and education.

Her ultimate aspiration is to establish herself as a proficient expert in ecosystem-based disaster risk reduction. By combining her academic foundation, practical experiences, and ongoing doctoral research, she is dedicated to contributing meaningfully to the advancement of strategies that enhance resilience through the integration of natural systems and community engagement.
